Guy Ball, technical communicator
I'm a technical writer by trade -- presently producing hardware and software documentation for a leading engineering and manufacturing company of high-level test equipment.
I'm currently working on a new photo book on Tustin (Calif.) history for Arcadia Publishing. Planned publication date is May 2010..
In addition, I've written four books and numerous articles (for reference books, newspapers, encyclopedias, and magazines). My photography has been used in a variety of books and other periodicals. I've also developed and published a variety of publications for others, including a series of mini-books created for a local non-profit, historical organization. In the new-technology arena, I am part of a small, fast-response digital video team and have produced a number of video-based engineering and training delivered via DVD/CD and streamed on the internet. I'm also involved in continuing research regarding better methods to deliver documentation including electronic book technology and other handheld devices to deliver text-based or video documentation.
Beyond that, I do a bit of volunteer web design and internet implementation for two local preservation groups as well as for a California state-wide historical organization. I've been involved in promoting accessible web sites for the visually impaired.
I've been a member of the advisory committee for the Digital Media Center, an innovative, small-business incubator built by the Rancho Santiago Community College District and on the advisory board for a proposed technical writing certificate program at Orange Coast College.
I'm a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
